What is XRP?
The XRP Ledger settles transactions in a few seconds using a consensus protocol run by validators, not mining. It has a built-in decentralized exchange and is marketed for cross-border payments.
Ripple, the company most associated with XRP, was sued by the US SEC in 2020. In July 2023 a court ruled that XRP sold on public exchanges was not a securities offering, while some institutional sales were; the appeals were dropped and the case ended in August 2025.
